Sips: New Glarus Brewing

If you’re planning a trip to Madison (or even happen to be passing through the area), I’m going to let you in a little secret: the town of New Glarus is the best detour you could make. Not only is everything adorably Swiss (more on that later), but the town is also home to the famous New Glarus Brewing.

Only sold in Wisconsin, New Glarus Brewing’s most famous beer is easily the Spotted Cow—it also happens to be my favorite, which means a few six-packs came home with me to share with Iowa friends.

While you can schedule a hard hat tour of New Glarus’ brewery, the time slots are limited and we weren’t able to make one work with our travel schedule. However, we did take advantage of the cooler, overcast day to sit outside in the tasting garden amongst the brewery’s hilltop “ruins.”

If you visit New Glarus Brewing

For $8 you can choose three tasting-size glasses of New Glarus’ regular or seasonal beers on tap and potentially find a new favorite of your own.

Hours for Gift Shop, Tours & Tastings: Monday – Sunday from 10:00 am – 4:00 pm
