Now that I’m finished with finals and back in Chicago for the holidays, I’ve been kicking my holiday spirit into high gear. And what’s the best way to overdose on Christmas cheer? Why, a sing-a-long concert with Sufjan Stevens of course!
Back in October a friend and I were lucky enough to score tickets to the Chicago stop of the Surfjohn Stevens Christmas Sing-A-Long Tour. To our surprise, show at The Metro sold out in under five minutes – meaning we were extra lucky to snag two tickets.
Last Saturday we readied our singing voices and headed to Wrigleyville for some offbeat holiday fun. The Metro was the perfect venue for Sufjan Stevens’ upbeat holiday show, complete with an interactive sing-a-long Wheel of Christmas, and from the railing of the balcony we had the perfect view for the evening’s merriment.
Released this November, Stevens’ four-disk album “Silver & Gold” encompasses everything from classical Christmas favorites to contemporary hits to melodies of his own creation. One of my personal favorites? Definitely the whimsical “Christmas Unicorn.”
