DIY Eats: Beer Cheese Bread

All Rights Reserved Megan BannisterAs someone who is almost always cold, the winter months make me crave big sweaters, cozy fireplaces, hot beverages, and hearty, filling meals.

So yesterday when I stumbled into my apartment, frozen from the chilly -5 degree temperatures we’ve been saddled with lately, nothing sounded more appealing than a warm slice of beer cheese bread.

It’s fast, it’s easy and it makes an absolutely delicious meal pairing.

Luckily I had all of the necessary ingredients on hand, and less than 45 minutes later, I was enjoying a warm slice of cheesy bread with a steamy bowl of tomato soup.

Stay warm out there, Iowa!

What you’ll need:

  • 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 ½ tsp baking powder
  • ½ tsp baking soda
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 2 T sugar
  • 1 tsp dried oregano
  • ½ tsp dried basil
  • 1 cup shredded cheese
  • 1 12-oz can of beer (the cheaper, the better)

Preheat oven to 375 degrees.

Mix all of your ingredients, except for the cheese and beer, together in a large mixing bowl. Add in cheese and beer gradually until your dough is consistent. Don’t worry – the dough will be lumpy and a little bit sticky.

Place dough into greased loaf pan and bake for 35-40 minutes.
