On our first full day in San Francisco we headed across the Golden Gate Bridge toward Sausalito to explore Muir Woods. Coming from the suburban Midwest, the landscape of towering sequoias and redwoods was something I could hardly imagine. But after just a few hours I was a convert – we spent the rest of the morning hiking among these beautiful trees.
We spent the afternoon wandering around Alamo Square Park, reenacting the Full House theme song and wondering how much it would cost to live in one of the Painted Ladies. On our way back to the hotel we took a brief detour to visit the actual “Full House” house—we’re really cool, I know. We also trekked up Lombard Street—”the crooked street in the world”—and caught a glimpse of one of the city’s famous streetcars.
In search of dinner and a drink or two we headed toward Fisherman’s Wharf to the Buena Vista Cafe, known for its world-famous Irish coffee.
Afterward we strolled over to Pier 39 to watch the lounging sea lions—another favorite of mine. Then treated ourselves to a classy dinner, complete with crab rolls and molten chocolate cake for dessert.
