Earlier this year I came up with a 101 in 1,001 list with the goal of completing 101 tasks in 1,001 days. Now that I’m almost a year into my 1,001 days, I’ve realized I’m more quickly chipping away at the goals, activities and experiences I included.
Since my last update, I’ve done a bit of traveling, celebrated some bigger goal milestones and (looking back) eaten a lot of great food:
55. Stomp grapes for the fall harvest at Summerset Winery (8/30/14)
In late August, I headed a bit south of Des Moines to Summerset Winery to pick grapes, do some stomping and say goodbye to one of my favorite people before she moved to Chicago. We had an incredible time and luckily didn’t end up reenacting this amazing gaffe.
9. Buy coffee for a stranger (11/23/14)
A few weekends ago I was having a bit of a rough Sunday until I pulled through the drive through to find the person in front of me had paid for my coffee. So I paid for the person behind me, too. And it reminded me just how important it is to practice gratitude on a daily basis.
24. Update personal website & portfolio (10/12/14)
I finally took the plunge and made a Squarespace site (sorry, WordPress) to host my professional portfolio. Take a peak—it’s where you’ll find all the things I do when I’m not visiting roadside attractions.
13. Take a road trip with my mom (9/12/14)
In September, I drove home to Chicago to spend some time in the city before my mom and I packed up the car and drove to Connecticut to visit my grandma. While we quickly learned there isn’t a ton to see between Chicago and Waterbury, Connecticut, we made a detour in Punxsutawney to visit the famous Phil.
26. Go to 10 concerts (11/22/14)
I love live music so it didn’t surprise me that I made it to the 10 so quickly (and, to be totally honest, I probably forgot to include a few along the way). Over the past 10 months, I’ve seen local bands like Parlours, The River Monks and Maids, and bigger names like Sleigh Bells, the Head & the Heart and Ingrid Michaelson.
61. Visit friends in Minneapolis (11/9/14)
A few weeks back a friend and I took off on a Friday afternoon and spent a few days in Minneapolis visiting some friends from college. Our trip included some sleeping in, a harrowing trip to the Mall of America’s IKEA and the amazing cinnamon roll you see before you from The Loring Kitchen.
82. Visit my grandma in Connecticut (9/8/14)
As I mentioned, my mom and I roadtripped out to Connecticut earlier this fall to visit my grandma and help clean out her attic. While it wasn’t necessarily the most eventful trip, we found some really cool photos and momentos from my grandparents’ life together. And found some time to grab hot lobster rolls one night for dinner.
85. Join a CSA—at least for a few months (10/16/14)
This fall I joined a CSA from Grade A Gardens, a wonderful farm located just outside of Des Moines. You can read more about my experience here.
