I’m Writing a Book! Introducing Iowa Supper Clubs

Yes, you read that correctly! I’m writing a book called Iowa Supper Clubs, which will be available in bookstores near you on August 17, 2020. I’m still pinching myself to make sure that this is actually happening, and while I know there’s lots of work ahead of me, I’m so excited.

When Arcadia Publishing reached out with an opportunity to collaborate on a book project, I jumped at the chance to fulfill a lifelong dream. Iowa Supper Clubs will be part travelogue, part history of the state’s now-defunct supper clubs.

I’ve written about supper clubs before and loved sharing this Midwest tradition with so many who had never heard of it before. I’m excited to dig even deeper into the history of these unique restaurants that cropped up across Iowa. I’m also looking forward to driving around the state to eat some delicious food and meet the many Iowans who have made supper clubs their livelihood.

Want to follow along with my supper club adventures? The best way to receive updates on the book will be through my email list! Make sure you’re subscribed to receive a behind-the-scenes look at the process as I research and visit supper clubs across the state.

My weekly newsletter, Off the Beaten Path, will be delivered directly to your inbox every Friday morning.

Supper clubs are a uniquely Midwestern tradition. With that tradition comes a lot of personal memories. If you have a favorite supper club—either one that’s no more or one that’s still open today— or fond dining memory, I would love to hear from you! I’m hoping to incorporate as many recommendations and anecdotes into the book as possible.

As I research and travel for Iowa Supper Clubs I would love to hear your recommendations of places that should be included in the book as well as your memories and experiences with Iowa supper clubs.
