There are few things I love more than cheese and this box is truly a treat! Whether you’re looking for a fun, Midwest-focused gift or simply want to treat yourself, I can’t recommend this curated selection of cheeses enough.

About Galena River Wine & Cheese
Galena River Wine and Cheese is a cozy shop located in the heart of Galena’s downtown. Their shop is full of delicious things to enjoy while you explore as well as treats to bring home with you. In addition to a wide selection of wines, meats and cheeses, the shop also has all the charcuterie board additions you could dream of, including travel-sized coolers to bring home all your goodies.
We didn’t know it at the time, but a weekend in Galena was the last trip I took before the pandemic started. It was a cold and icy weekend in January. But we still had a great time wandering up and down Main Street and, importantly, eating.
We were lucky enough to be able to pop into Galena River Wine and Cheese during our visit. Josh and I shared a deliciously gooey grilled cheese while sampling a few of their wine and spirits. Not only is their team incredibly friendly but they’re also fantastically knowledgeable about—you guessed it—wine and cheese. During our trip we discovered some new-to-use wines and liquors that are still among our favorites to this day thanks to the Galena River Wine and Cheese team.

What to Expect from the Monthly Cheese Club
If you can’t visit Galena in person, a Cheese of the Month Club box is a great way to experience what this lovely shop has to offer at home. An at-home charcuterie board has become one of my go-to meals, especially on a lazy weekend. And Galena River Wine and Cheese’s monthly box is the perfect way to get started!
The monthly box I received included Saxon Big Ed’s Gouda, Quicke’s Devonshire Red and Deer Creek Moon Rabbit. In addition to the informational cards included in each box, the shop also suggests alcohol pairings for each cheese. These cards were not only a great way to learn about the cheese itself but also the producer who made it. Of the cheeses I received this month, I think the Deer Creek Moon Rabbit was my favorite!
Each month, the team at Galena River Wine and Cheese choose a selection of artisan cheeses that they cut, package and ship directly to your door. Boxes come in three-, four- and five-cheese options. Every shipment comes complete with cheese storage wrap and handy informational cards.
Cheese Club boxes ship on the last Monday of the month. At this time, boxes can be delivered to Iowa, Illinois, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri and Wisconsin. The cost of the monthly box is between $39 and $49, depending on how many cheeses you’d like to receive.
