When it comes down to it, there are few things I love more than cheese. Add craft beer into the mix and I’m a pretty happy camper. That’s why I was so excited to have an opportunity to take part in one of Madison‘s Essential Madison Experiences. This mix of in-person and virtual experiences lets you get a taste (in this case, literally) of all the great things Madison has to offer. And I didn’t even leave my house!
It was a blast to learn more about all the great things going on in Madison. In addition to come great info to plan my next visit, I also got to meet the proprietors of Capital Brewery and Fromagination while sampling their tasty products.

Getting a Taste of Madison, Wisconsin
As part of my Madison experience, I received a variety of goodies to prepare for our virtual tasting with the Destination Madison team. Then we hopped on Zoom to learn about some of the city’s unique small business and sample their delicious specialties.
First was a pair of two craft beers from Capital Brewery in Middletown, Wisconsin. The brewery has been brewing beer since 1986. While they were originally focused on German-style brews, they’ve since expanded into other styles. Capital Brewery’s German Kolsch was light and citrusy making it the perfect summer sipper. Typically I’m not an IPA fan, but I also loved the Ye Ole Hopped IPA, an American IPA that was just the right amount of hoppy.
Next, we dug into three Wisconsin-made cheeses from Fromagination. This cheese-loving shop opened 13 years ago after its owner was inspired by Wisconsin’s cheese culture and wanted to expand people’s imagination in the world of cheese. This European style shop with Wisconsin charm has tons of incredible cheeses, including the three I got to sample. Of the cheeses we sampled, the Young Gouda from Marieke Gouda was my favorite. This U.S. championship-winning cheese maker only produces Gouda and wow do they excel at it.
Lastly, we paired our other snacks with two mustards from the incredible collection at the National Mustard Museum. It’ll come as no surprise that I’m a big fan of this quirky museum. While I’ve visited before, I hope to go back soon to see even more of their mustard-loving displays and extensive gift shop.
