DIY: Sharpie Coffee Mugs

All Rights Reserved Megan BannisterI’m always on the lookout for good, creative gift ideas – especially in the months leading up to the majority of my friends’ birthdays. So when a neighbor gifted me an adorable decorated mug filled with goodies awhile back, I knew this DIY would be the perfect birthday surprise for a good friend.

The best part about this project is that you can literally do whatever you want, so get creative! I chose a metallic gold Sharpie along with a simple polka dot and stripe theme to match the rest of my crafty birthday present.

You’ll need:

  • A plain ceramic mug – I found mine at Dollar Tree
  • Sharpies
  • An oven

Not only is this project low cost, it’s also super low on instructions! Before you design your mug, make sure to thoroughly wash and dry it to remove any dust or residue. And on the off chance that you mess up or make a mistake (because I definitely did) a bit of nail polish remover and a Q-tip will easily remove the Sharpie from ceramic.

Pre-heat your oven to 350 degrees and once you finish decorating, bake the mug for 30 minutes. But be careful! Once you remove your mug make sure it’s fully cooled before drinking from or washing it.
