Before you ever leave the house, creating a road trip playlist is an essential part of your adventure. For as long as I can remember, one of my favorite parts of hitting the road was creating the perfect mix CD. Years later certain songs still bring back memories of specific moments in time or landmarks we passed along the way. There are songs that will forever make me smile when I hear them because of the people I listened to them with over and over again.
When it comes to creating a road trip playlist of your own there are really no hard and fast rules. Open the process up to your fellow travelers. Or create separate playlists to surprise each other with while on the road. If you’re looking for an added element of surprise, theme your playlist to reflect your destination. For example, I’ve (nerdily) already started compiling a track list for our eventual Route 66 road trip.
When it comes down to it though, my ideal road trip playlist is the perfect blend of my contemporary favorites and the classics I grew up hearing on our car radio. In my opinion, if there aren’t at least a few songs on your playlist that are going to make you have a serious car dance party, you’re doing it wrong.
