Disclosure: As part of my ticket to the Women in Travel Summit, I received a free tour of Lakefront Brewery courtesy of Visit Milwaukee. However, all opinions are my own.
If you ask pretty much any random person on the streets of Milwaukee for something fun to do, chances are they’ll recommend you check out the Lakefront Brewery tour. In fact, in the short time I had to explore Milwaukee, the experience was recommended so many times that I knew I needed to check it out. And the locals are right—Lakefront Brewery does not disappoint.
Located Milwaukee’s Riverwest neighborhood, this quickly growing brewery has become one of Milwaukee’s cornerstones. . Founded in 1987 by brothers Russ and Jim Klisch, Lakefront Brewery has celebrated some notable milestones over the years, including bottling the first certified organic beer in 1996 and creating the first gluten-free beer in America.
The best part of Lakefront Brewery’s tours is easily its tour guides who are both comedians and purveyors of knowledge. The hour-long tour flies by as visitors learn about the brewery’s history, brewing process, and traditions. Fun fact: Lakefront Brewery now owns the bottling line featured in the opening sequence of “Laverne and Shirley.” I don’t want to ruin any surprises, but you might want to start practicing the pair’s iconic theme song before your visit!
In addition to being a great time, Lakefront Brewery’s tours are also an amazing deal. For $10, each person receives four six-ounce pours and a souvenir pint glass. Tours are offered every 30 minutes every day of the week. If you’re an obsessive pre-planner like I am (or plan on visiting on a busy weekend), you can find all of the nitty gritty details about tours online.
Of the varieties we sampled, I ended up with two clear favorites. The El Wisco Mexican Lager is one of the brewery’s newest sensational seasonals. If there was ever a perfect beer for warm summer nights on the patio, it’s this one. I’m typically a fan of darker beers. So it’ no huge surprise that the Fuel Cafe, a stout brewed with Milwaukee’s organic Fuel Café coffee, was my other favorite.
I’m never one to pass up bar food so we also sampled the Delux Pretzel and Fried Cheese Curds. Because if you’re not drinking beer and eating cheese, you’re doing Wisconsin wrong.
If you visit Lakefront Brewery
Even if you’re not a huge beer drinker, the Lakefront Brewery tour is a great way to spend an afternoon. The tour guides are engaging, and the brewery’s taproom is a great place to hang out with friends afterwards.

I always recommend Lakefront Brewery for families too! On evenings, they have the most amazing fish fry with polka music. Always a blast!
That sounds like so much fun! I’d love to go back to experience that. Thanks so much for reading!
Looks awesome! Love a good brewery tour.
Lakefront Brewery offers one of the best! I can’t recommend a visit there enough.
